Warminster Town 1 - Bishops Lydeard 2 Saturday 10/03/18
Warminster Town now bottom of Division One of the Toolstation League are desperately looking for points and today is a big game for them following the resignation of manager, Simon Farrell. The visitors today, Bishops Lydeard started the day in 11th place.
The club has appointed Andy Crabtree as interim manager and it is fair to say that today Warminster put in a very good performance. The first half remained goal-less but the Red & Blacks had the better chances. The passing and awareness of other players was much improved and it looked very much that Warminster were the better team.
The second half started much the same with Warminster creating the best opportunities, until Bishops Lydeard attacked and the Warminster defence assumed a player was offside and raising their arms, switched off. The rule of 'play to the whistle' went out of the window and despite some last second dithering from the Bishops Lydeard forward and desperate defending from Warminster, the ball ended up in the back of the net.
Warminster captain Charlie Walton restored order not too long later and once again it looked like the home team could go on the get 3 points from this game. However, things didn't work out and in the final minutes of the game, Bishops Lydeard were awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area which soon led to them scoring their second goal. At the final whistle it remained 2 - 1 to the visitors which after such a good performance from the Red & Blacks is very disappointing.
Overall, Warminster Town can take great encouragement from this performance and move on to the next game with much more confidence that relegation can be avoided.
